Thailand has constantly been a chief stay on everyone’s travel plans to Asia. Pattaya has been a very fashionable city, though not with the main stream tourists. This has not been a well-liked vacation spot for families as it appeals to a certain segment of tourists with more prurient interests. This is one aspect of the city that the regional government has been working hard to change.
There has been a large push by the Pattaya city council has been hard at work trying to revitalize the city’s image. One of the things that they have been doing is trying to replace a lot of bars and entertainment complexes with new hotels and shopping malls. There is a big push to improve the infrastructure of the city and to make it a more family friendly place.
Another thing the city of Pattaya is doing is to increase their marketing to many areas around the world. In an effort to get tourists from around the world to try something new and enjoy South East Asia travel. There has been a significant increase in tourist numbers from these areas. Whether or not this is actually a good thing is still being debated. These new types of tourists come with a different mindset and don’t spend their dollars quite so freely.
While they were hoping these new visitors would be spending large amounts of money at the malls they are instead spending now money at the beach. There is no where near the same amount of money flowing into the Pattaya economy when compared to the tourists they are trying to replace. This is causing a big impact on all the small businesses that have catered to the tourist masses for so long.
There is a big debate going on as to whether this decision was a smart one or if they should return to the old ways of attracting tourists. Many people have their doubts as to the success this new marketing campaign will hold.
