The brothers of Delta Tau Delta adhere to four fundamental principles to distinguish themselves as men who reach for their best in the pursuit of academics, philanthropy, leadership, and socialization. These four fundamental principles are:
Truth: Truth is as simple as it is complex. In plain language, it means not telling a lie. However, in a more developed sense, in the way a Delt carries it with him, truth means many things. These things are honesty, integrity, good will, sincerity, and harmony in all aspects of life. A Delt seeks to learn the truth and from there, to live it in each and every day of his life. There are many truths in the world, and it is the personal goal and obligation of every member of Delta Tau Delta to find his truth and expand upon it, bettering the world by committing himself to words and actions that align with the truth he has learned and experienced in life.
Courage: Courage is regarded as bravery in the face of some obstacle, physical or moral. A Delt embraces this definition and uses inner strength to succeed in life. Tough times are a natural part of everyone’s life, regardless of gender, race, color, creed, religion, or social class. Wherever a Delt goes in his life, he has high aspirations, meaning he is bound to run into very tough situations that will call on him to make tough choices. A true Delt is not afraid of these times, and seeks to make the right choice, whatever right may be. Whether you find a Delt on the battlefield, in the courtroom, or anywhere in his life, professional or personal, he is always tackling life head on; with strength, fortitude, and in a decidedly true and goodly way.
Faith: Faith is widely considered to be belief in a religion, major or minor. However, for a Delt, faith transcends this. Delta Tau Delta accepts men from all walks of life, meaning there are some who believe in religion and others whom do not. Therefore, faith to a Delt is trust, in each other and in humankind. A Delt also never gives up hope, always believing that whatever he is doing or seeking is worth achieving. It is acting honourably in relationships, choosing to avoid deceit or acts and words that will disgrace him and associates. A Delt values faith as regarding life as worth living and having a potential or ultimate goal to fulfill, and working towards that goal in a healthy manner. It is the hope, aspiration, and good natured attitude inherent in strong, worthy men.
Power: Power can be construed as a man’s status in life and what he controls and owns. How far he climbs up the ladder, be it corporate, religious, social, or otherwise. Yet this interpretation of power is narrow, limiting the scope of what it truly is. Power is the measure of a Delt’s strength in his pursuits. Regardless of what station he takes in his chosen field, or at any moment in life, a true Delt gives his all in everything. Physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually, academically, and psychologically, a Delt carries on and never gives up. The measure of power for a Delt is whether or not, at the end of the day, he can look himself, and his fellow men and women in the eye and say, no matter what the outcome, he gave it his all.
